Scenario
Struggling to adjust to his new school after being expelled for his treatment of Auggie Pullman, Julian is visited by his grandmother and transformed by the story of his attempts to escape Nazi-occupied France during World War II. Originally intended to be released in September. 16, 2022. Later that month, the film was quietly removed from the schedule and moved back to August 25, 2023 due to poor performance at the fall (2021) box office and was moved back to the film. an unspecified date due to the SAG-AFTRA strike. Grandmère mentions that Julian was kicked out of Beecher Prep as a result of him bullying Auggie in Wonder (2017). However, in that movie, Julian was never expelled from Beecher Prep. because of the bullying, Auggie decided to drop him out of school at the end of that school year.
Grand-mère: What?
Julian Albans: Right now I’m just trying to fit in. That’s kind of been my motto since I left my old school. Julian, you haven’t left the old school. You got kicked out for being mean to another boy. In 2017, a movie called MIRACLE (based on the 2012 book by R. J Palacio) was released, about a spoiled boy who goes to public school for the first time. I actually just watched it.
This is a good movie
I really liked how they presented the story through multiple characters' perspectives. Following this trend, a sequel of sorts called WHITE BIRD (based on the 2019 graphic novel by the same author) was released. Don’t worry, you don’t need to see WONDER to understand what’s going on. This is about Julien (Bryse Gheisar), a former school bully who gets a taste of his own medicine at a new preschool. He is visited by his grandmother Sara (Hellen Miren), who tells a story about his past. In 1942 France, young Sara (Ariella Glaser) is forced to hide from the Nazis and is taken in by classmate Julien (Orlando Schwerdt), who has a lame leg due to polio. She and her parents (actors Gillian Anderson and Jo Stone-Fewings) hide her in the barn. The performances of the two leads are great and full of chemistry.
Remember that kindness can change someone’s life
I was quite stressed throughout the experience due to the circumstances. It has "Anne Frank" atmosphere, but it has worked well here. In dark times, all we need is kindness and hope. It is a bit heavy in some parts but a very solid film.
