Angelina Jolie and director Pablo Larraín discuss how they connected to the heartbreaking true story of world-renowned opera singer Maria Callas
Scenario
Maria Callas, the world’s greatest opera singer, lives her final days in 1970s Paris as she confronts her identity and her life. The third and final film in Pablo Larraín’s so-called "Lady with High Heels" female-led biographical trilogy, following Jackie (2016) and Spencer (2021).

This is a beautifully shot and directed film
Angelina Jolie’s great lead performance holds this film together well, and I admire how much she invested in this role, especially the operatic singing. The plot is a bit messy and the pacing is a bit off, but I still think the film is entertaining enough to enjoy, and educational about this period and opera in general.
I love the editing, and the black and white shots are beautiful
I think this is a solid film from Pablo Larrain, with a possible Oscar-winning performance from Angelina Jolie. No need to waste time scrolling endlessly – here’s the full lineup of new movies and TV shows streaming on Netflix this month.
