Scenario
Need a lawyer? He runs his own law firm in Lincoln and is ready to go. Relocating to Los Angeles, he takes on cases while balancing a private life that includes being a father and having two ex-wives. Originally set up with CBS for a series commitment in 2020, it was canceled before the first episode was even filmed due to COVID .

This has now been picked up by Netflix for a 10-episode first season based on Mickey Haller’s second book, “The Brass Verdict”. Mickey Haller has several cars, all with custom California license plates with legal terms on them. Custom California plates allow a maximum of seven letters/numbers, however all of Mickey’s plates have at least eight.. This is an enjoyable first season of the series, which is based on the novels by Michael Connelly.
The viewer identifies with the ups and downs of Haller’s legal career
The tandem of David Kelley and Ted Humphrey manages to bring to the screen the serious story of smart defense attorney Mickey Haller, his associates, and his family. But one is impressed by his passion for the law and genuine concern for his clients. The film is able to capture his deep humanity amidst his flaws. Apart from Haller, all the other major characters are identifiable: Cisco, Lorna, Maggie, Trevor Elliott, Hayley, and even Detective Griggs.
Bring on season 2
The whole thing is well-crafted and quite entertaining. The twists and turns keep the viewer’s attention as the drama resonates. In particular, the way Haller is able to unravel the magic bullet, connecting one crime to another, and use it at trial is ingenious. Serious students of criminal law and procedure will definitely appreciate the free law and tutorial it offers.
We can’t wait to learn more about the lives of Haller and company
