Holy cross Hr. Sec. School for the hearing impaired
Holy cross Hr. Sec. School for the hearing impaired was started with 2 students in 1982 has successfully completed 35 years of service to the society. It is recognized by the government. Today the school has 125 students with varying degrees of auditory mal function from pre-KG to Std. XII following regular syllabus of the state board of Tamil Nadu. 15 dedicated special educators are engaged in this service.
The special curriculum includes auditory training, speech therapy both in group and individual. Special coaching in working with computers is undertaken in collaboration with CSC computers. In addition to regular classes we teach tailoring and embroidering. English coaching class is given for the students who have completed Std. XII.
Holy Cross Blossom Opportunity School
Holy cross Blossom Opportunity School is a special school for children with intellectual disabilities, Autism, Attention Deficit Hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), slow learners, learning disability, multiple disability, Down syndrome between the age to 18 years. This was founded in 1997 with 5 children. Today we serve more than 120 children.
Early intervention is a half day programme for the children of 0-6 years. The parents accompany the children for every activity in order that they may teach them at home.
The school has a full time physiotherapist, speech therapist who work individually with the children, recommends alternate therapies available at the school such occupational therapy, yoga, swimming, Dance and music therapy, sensory stimulation and integration, speech and sand therapy, play and recreation therapy. Through vocational training, the children are trained to make handicrafts, phenol, soap oil and candle.
NEST school for the children with autism
NEST school for the children with autism was founded in the year 2002 as a Need Based Education Service and Training. It has been centennial gift by St. Joseph’s Anglo Indian Girls Hr. Sec. School at Cantonment to the society at large. We enhance academic intellectual growth of the students by giving psychotherapy, speech therapy, occupation and vocational therapy in order to promote social integration. The children are trained in academic and non-academic skills. The assessment of the child is based on observation of the behavior that occur in the routines of daily lives. The parents, teachers, physicians who have directly observed the Childs behavior are consulter.
